Mountain Pride Media exists to develop and strengthen the community of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, and questioning (GLBTQ) Vermonters, through the development and maintenance of communication vehicles. We welcome dynamic volunteers who want to help us achieve this mission! Here are the kind of folks we're looking for:
- Board Members: MPM is going through an exciting period of growth and trying to attract the right visionaries to our Board of Directors. We're looking for GLBT or Allied community members that are interested in our mission, full of energy and ideas, with a good sense of humor, and interested in exploring specific areas of media conmmunication.
We're open to any and all ideas, but it seems that the Vermont GLBTQ community is interested in web communications, print media, (internet) radio, TV, event promotions, and more. If you have skills or interests in one or more of these areas, consider joining us!
Mountain Pride Media wants to connect all GLBTQ Vermonters, so minorities within the community are welcome to inquire. Also, it is important for a statewide organization to have representation from diverse geographic areas. If you live in one of the following counties, please consider a Board position.
- Grand Isle
- Franklin
- Lamoille
- Orleans
- Essex
- Caledonia
- Addison
- Orange
- Rutland
- Windsor
- Bennington
- Windham
(Current board members live in Washington and Chittenden counties, but others within those counties are still more than welcome to apply.)
- Bookkeeper/Board Member: Mountain Pride Media is seeking a volunteer with experience in nonprofit
bookkeeping and Quickbooks to keep our books accurate and up-to-date. This
person would join our Board of Directors and serve as our Treasurer.
- Community feedback: Mountain Pride Media is trying to better fullfill its mission. We're looking for feedback from GLBTQ Vermonters about how they want to connect to other GLBTQ folks and the community as a whole.
Do you miss Out in the Mountains? Do you prefer getting your news online? Would you listen to a gay-oriented radio station or show? How about if it was on the internet?
We have lots of questions and lots of projects we're exploring, so drop us a line and we'll start picking your brain!
- Landlord:
Yes, we're looking for a volunteer landlord! It may not be the most common volunteer request,
but we thought we'd put the request out there and see what the universe may deliver.
Specifically, we're looking for office space for 1-2 people and storage
(21+ years of archives!). We'd love to have a street address in central
Vermont, but we're happy to explore all of our options. If you have office
space you'd like to consider donating or accepting very affordable rent on
or an exchange of services (advertising), please contact us!
- Calendar Manager:
MPM will go public with a statewide, interactive, searchable calendar in July.
We need someone, in the months preceeding the launch and after, to manage the
listings with us. In May and June, this will involve finding, contacting,
or connecting with all the listservs, event managers, and other calendar
listings available to the VT GLBTQ community. Close to launch date, the
volunteer will work with VT GLBTQ non-profits to feed information into
the calendar. And after the launch, the position will require the updating
and maintenance of the calendar.
We're looking for a very conscientious, responsible, and efficient
volunteer for this position. The time commitment depends on traffic to
the site, but we're willing to support this volunteer in whatever ways
possible, as the calendar is a vital part of our next stage in growth!
- Pride Volunteers:
MPM fans can rally for Pride festivities this year and really show that
we're still OUT in the mountains! Walk in the parade with us, help us
build a float, bring along friends and family, or staff a table to help us
reconnect with readers, supporters, and newcomers. Let us know what you
can do and we'll make a day out of it!
-
Resource Database Manager:
Imagine a central location where GLBTQ Vermonters can find services, resources, non-profits, social and support groups, and ways to volunteer and donate. MPM is going to make that resource happen! In July, along with an interactive, statewide calendar, MPM will launch a searchable, statewide Resource Database.
We are looking for a volunteer with some web and data entry skills. This volunteer can work with and help the people and organizations serving our community to accurately and concisely represent their groups. In May and June the volunteer position will be more intensive, helping MPM reach out, gather information, and bring it all together within the Database. After the launch in July, the volunteer will continue to work with all of the represented organizations (and continue to reach out to more), but s/he will be more maintenance focused rather than start-up focused.
MPM is returning to its volunteer roots. That means that we can only move forward with the support of active and engaged community members like yourself! With that in mind, we place a high value on our team of volunteers and do everything we can to support them. The MPM Board of Directors is conscientious of your time, energy, and commitment. Whatever we can do to support and show appreciation for our volunteers, we will do!
If a position listed above seems interesting to you, but you still have questions, please don’t hesitate to e-mail volunteer@mountainpridemedia.org. We’ll have a conversation and see how we can collaborate. Also, if you have skills, interests, or ideas that don’t seem to be addressed above, then let us know how you think you can help too!
